Keywords and keyword research

ImageKeywords are the search words entered into search engines by Internet users, to find web sites and information pages. In order to gain good search engine ranking placements, i.e. to appear highest on the list of search results, it is important that your site text is focused on the keywords most relevant for your site’s subject matter.

The choice of which keywords to focus on is critical to the success of search engine promotion. The most popular keywords have a great deal of competition for high rankings, however by optimising your site for less popular keywords you may get good search engine rankings, but for keywords that attract low visitor numbers.

Netpromote provide a keyword service identifying up to 100 relevant keywords that contain your main stem keywords. This research is based on actual search terms used within the last three months:

  • Find out which keywords and keyword phrases Internet users are using to search for sites like yours.

  • Focus on specific keywords that bring visitors who have already indicated a need for your products and services.

Keyword Phrases

By analysing search terms used, and search behaviour, it is clear that Internet consumers tend to behave in several distinct patterns. As with traditional marketing methods, this insight into market segments can enable you to market your site more effectively to a wider range of Internet users:

  • Users that search for single keywords tend to be searching for general information, rather than a specific product or service.

  • People that search for longer keyword phrases are more likely to be looking for a specific item and more inclined to purchase goods or services on that visit.

So by focusing your site on keyword phrases that consist of two to four keywords, you can attract visitors that are more likely to be potential customers rather than visitors researching your industry.

Predicting which keyword phrases will be used to search for your site is more problematic, as typically around fifty percent of all searches made to lead visitors to our clients’ sites are on phrases unique to that visitor. To address this, it is therefore important that your site be relevant for a wide range of keywords relating to your industry, products and services.

Netpromotes’ keyword services can help you identify how and why people want to use your website, and market your products and services to them most effectively based on that insight.
